New user-friendly features in the EBRAINS Interactive Atlas Viewer

    04 February 2021

    • Overall streamlined user interface
    • New features such as interactive exploration of receptor densities and physiological recordings
    • Updated parcellation maps, including the latest version of the Julich-Brain cytoarchitectonic maps and maps of functional modules

The latest version of the EBRAINS Interactive Atlas Viewer brings a range of new features and updated versions of parcellation maps. The user interface has been significantly streamlined in response to user feedback.

By double clicking a region, the viewer will automatically load and display the probabilistic map of the region, if applicable. It will open a side panel with rich information, such as name and location, information and access to the corresponding dataset card in the EBRAINS Knowledge Graph, and multimodal data features from the Knowledge Graph which are linked to the brain region. This includes interactive exploration of densities for different neurotransmitter receptors, browsing of contact point locations from physiological recordings, and the region’s connectivity profile as extracted from different neuroimaging databases.

The new release includes the latest version 2.5 of the Julich-Brain cytoarchitectonic maps, maps of dictionaries of functional modes (DiFuMo), and a more detailed version of the short bundle maps based on the HCP dataset.

A reworked “layer” selector provides easy access to these complementary parcellation maps, as well as different template spaces. The MNI reference space is linked to the BigBrain microscopic space by spatial coordinate transformations and corresponding cytoarchitectonic region definitions.
