HBP scientist Paolo Carloni receives Hans and Marlies Zimmer International Scholar Award

    19 May 2022

Professor Paolo Carloni was presented with the Hans and Marlies Zimmer International Scholar Award at a symposium in Cincinnati (USA) in April 2022. The HBP researcher was honoured for his work in the field of computer-based chemistry and biophysics.

Paolo Carloni is the head of the Institute for Advanced Simulation – Computational Biomedicine (IAS-5/INM-9) at Forschungszentrum Jülich. He is a molecular modelling specialist and carries out research in the HBP’s areas of simulation and drug design. His team’s supercomputing-powered simulations provide insight on the workings of signaling molecules in the brain and have led to patented drug candidates for neurodegenerative diseases. His institute is involved in a HBP project addressing Covid-19-induced brain fog using computer-designed molecules that target brain inflammation.
