Training purpose and objectives

The School aims to provide, both on a theoretical and technical-practical level, the basics of neural modelling, from single neuron to large scale brain circuits. It will be illustrated how the experimental data obtained with electrophysiological and imaging techniques are used both in the construction of the models and in their validation, providing an advanced integrated system for the study of neural functions. It will be shown how neural circuit models can be embedded into brain simulators and used for physiological studies and applications in biomedicine and robotics. The main modelling infrastructures and in particular EBRAINS of the Human Brain Project will be illustrated.



The School is organised by the Neurophysiology section of the Department of Brain and Behavioural Sciences under the coordination of Prof. Egidio D'Angelo and by the Italian Society of Physiology. The course will be divided into theoretical sessions consisting of oral presentations and open discussions, focused on the experimental strategies and modelling methodologies covered by the course and by technical-practical sessions carried out in the laboratory with hands-on modalities. The School provides a Lectio Magistralis in honor of Prof. Cesare Casella which will take place at the Almo Collegio Borromeo and two key lectures held, respectively, by Prof. Fabio Benfenati and Prof. Michele Migliore. The School will be reserved for participants admitted to the course only, while the Lectio Magistralis linked to the assignment of the Cesare Casella prize which will also be open to people outside of the School.



Participation to streamed sessions

The onsite participation is closed now, but all morning and afternoon lectures from 8:30 to 16:00 (CEST) will be open to 300 registered participants. Please note, the above mentioned hands-on parts in the laboratories will not be streamed.
