    Brain states: Models and Experiments

    EITN, Paris. March 1, 2018 – March 2, 2018

The goal of this workshop is to put together various scales of investigations of brain states, from the cellular (neuron) level, to circuits, up to the whole brain.

We would like to also contrast models and experiments to assess our understanding of the genesis of different brain states (including wake, sleep, anesthesia), and identify what are the next challenges, both at the experimental and modeling side.

Organised by Mavi Sanchez Vives, Marcello Massimini and Alain Destexhe.

The registration is free however mandatory due to a limited number of seats.

DutchBrain: National Outreach Event of the Human Brain Project

    Amsterdam, NL. March 2, 2018

The aim of this event is to inform participants about activities and progress in HBP. Participants will learn about the various possibilities for collaboration through or with the HBP Core project and Partnering Projects and engage in discussion on how HBP brain research, infrastructure and technology can advance research in general and more specifically in the Dutch setting. Participants will also be informed about international developments and funding opportunities and be strongly encouraged to seek participation in, and make use of, the infrastructure and scientific network offered by HBP. The program will comprise of talks, posters, exhibitions, and discussions. More details on the program will be available soon.

Career Building Workshop for female postdocs and PhD students

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain.  March 8, 2018

The aim of this workshop is to support female post-doctoral researchers and advanced PhD students in their career development, and prepare them for leadership roles in the scientific community. The workshop will offer personal skills training and provide information on scientific career building.  It will provide the opportunity for personal career planning, as well as a session on successful self-presentation. The “Networking Night” will bring in successful female scientists to give participants first-hand insights into the challenges that lie ahead of them. It will also be a great opportunity to network!

    Conference on Gender & Diversity

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain March 9, 2018

There is overwhelming evidence that diverse teams deliver stronger and more sustainable results in science and business. To harvest the benefits of diversity, the HBP is promoting innovative leadership and invites you to its first conference on this topic in March 2018.

The conference will focus on the issue of gender balance at all career levels in the HBP, and gender and diversity considerations in research content. It will present the results and recommendations of the HBP gender equality studies and will bring in renowned experts from science and industry to equip the participants with concepts and practical tools.

HBP Curriculum: Cognitive systems for non-specialists workshop

    Munich, Germany. March 13, 2018

The goal of this workshop is to provide a definitive introduction to the theory of cognitive systems. Drawing from advances in brain research, the topic is approached from a computational-neuroscientific perspective rather than an abstract-psychological one, bridging the gap between the physical structure of the brain and the logical organization of its cognitive capabilities. Special focus is put on the role of robotics as a means to ground cognitive function in bodies that physically interact within different types of environments.

The application deadline has closed (17 January 2018).

    EITN Spring School

    EITN, Paris. March 19–23, 2018

The main focus of the course will be to understand and design neural models at multiple scales, ranging from cellular and circuit models to large-scale brain networks. The goal of the course is to teach different techniques of computational neuroscience spanning different scales:

The deadline for applications is February 15th, 2018.
