The sharing and processing of research data is a key element of success in many domains and particularly in neuroscience and brain health. This often requires to work with what is usually referred to as “sensitive” data, such as patient profiles, medical records, hospital files, to name a few. Such data sets are necessary for scientific analysis and need to be used in a fully compliant way in line with strict privacy and ethical rules. For this purpose the Human Brain Project and its research infrastructure EBRAINS are looking for partners to help them offer state-of-the-art compliant data solutions to the scientific community. In a new call, institutions and companies can apply for funding of up to 1 million Euro to support this work.

Call Text:

The Call for Expression of Interest (CEoI) aims to establish EBRAINS Services for Sensitive Data (EBRAINS SSD) as a part of the EBRAINS Research Infrastructure.

The EBRAINS SSD shall 1) serve multinational research consortia in Europe, in support of basic, clinical and translational research in the diverse field of neuroscience, 2) deliver services and tools required to work efficiently across countries with research on sensitive neuroscience data originating from human subjects (directly identifiable or pseudonymised data), including collaborative sharing, collecting and analysing sensitive data. The EBRAINS SSD should also define routes for public sharing of its outputs (anonymised data and results) through the EBRAINS Data and Knowledge services.

Target groups:

The target groups are institutions or companies that are currently developing and hosting services for sensitive data aimed at academic and clinical research.

Timelines and budget

Budget: EUR 1,000,000 Direct Costs. Maximum funding per proposal: EUR 1,000,000 (PLUS 25% Indirect Costs), one proposal will be selected.

A pre-final version of the proposal should be uploaded at least 3 days before the deadline (by 17 May 2021), to avoid being unable to submit due to eventual technical difficulties during a last-minute submission.

The proposal submission deadline is 20 May 2021 at 17:00 (Brussels time).
It is recommended to use Firefox to upload the proposal.
