The Human Brain Project – Preparatory Study (HBP-PS) is a pilot project in the European FET Flagship Program. The project, coordinated by the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), brings together a Consortium of 13 partners from 9 EU member states. The Consortium's goal for this phase of the project (May 2011-April 2012) is prepare a roadmap and a detailed proposal for a full-scale Flagship project. This calls for challenging, tightly coordinated research in a broad range or disciplines from neuroscience to hardware engineering. The Consortium partners will work together to plan this research, each taking responsibility for one particular “pillar of activity”, each coordinating contributions from a team of universities, and research institutions and each working with the others to ensure that the planned work contributes as effectively as possible to the overall goals of the project.
